The Gill Odd Fellows Home and its associated retirement apartment complex is dedicated to providing high quality housing to senior citizens with limited income in the Ludlow, Vermont area. To achieve this goal and expand the existing facilities, Dufresne & Associates and Northern Architects teamed to provide a design for a new 36 unit apartment complex. The new building will provide apartments complete with kitchens, a common room for community events and laundry rooms to service client needs.

Dufresne & Associates provided the civil/landscaping, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection designs for the building. D&A also played the lead role in obtaining the local and state permits required for the building construction to
proceed.

The project is funded by a grant from HUD. One of HUD’s specific requests was to provide positive ventilation for the building since in their previous apartment complexes there were significant odor complaints. D&A addressed this issue with out incurring a significant energy impact to the project by providing a pair of air to air heat recovery units. These units are designed to recapture up to 60% of the energy in the exhaust air and use it to preheat the supply to the building.
