RENOVATIONS FOR THE DENTAL TRAINING BUILDING
BLAIR PARK CAMPUS, BURLINGTON, VERMONT
Dufresne & Associates provided mechanical engineering design services to
Northern Architects for a new heating, ventilation and air conditioning system
for a 8,600 square foot renovation of an office building for use as a dental
teaching clinic. The design consists of two air handling units coupled with
variable air volume (VAV) units. These units vary the amount of air flow to each
zone for optimal temperature control of different spaces during different
periods of use to match the demand for the building. This reduces the electrical
power required during periods of minimal building demand.
In addition to saving electricity by varying the fan speed, the two air handling
units also have an energy recovery feature that recovers heat for the exhaust
stream during the winter months, reducing the demand for fossil fuel.
Completion of the renovation project is scheduled for September of 2005.
HVAC System Features:
Exclusive use of premium efficient variable speed motors.
Heat recovery that reduces outside air
heating costs by 80%.
Heat recovery that reduces cooling costs
by 25% and provides application equipment Energy Efficiency Ration (EER) of
12.7.
Outside air controlled through CO2
sensors allowing building occupants to vary ventilation to building
occupancy.
